| How Reebok got Wall? | ||||

Since John Wall had been in the 10th grade, he attended many Reebok sponsored camps and tournaments. If you know the John Wall story then you know that he blasted on the national scene at the end of his junior year of high school. This is not saying that he was not good until his junior year but that he didn't have the notariety. During the summer of 2008, Wall literally destroyed his competition in the Reebok Summer Championship. There was no guard who wanted to see this fierce competitor in transition because he was unstoppable. It was like a man amongst boys and nobody can deny this because we all have seen the countless amount of highlights on youtube. While John ran thru his opponents like Jay-Z has done many hating rappers, Reebok knew they needed to develop a plan to land a sneaker deal with him as a pro. John continued to have a stellar senior season at Word of God, almost averaging a triple double. The only stat record he didn't break was his cousin Randy Pulley's 52-point game. In the meantime, Reebok was steadily creating the perfect presentation for Wall to see after his one and done college season. Wall did not disappoint the Reebok staff by having one of the best freshman seasons ever outside the Fab Five and Carmelo Anthony. When John announced he would be entering the NBA Draft in April, Reebok was ready to take their shot at the soon to be No. 1 Draft pick but first they had competition. Nike came with money but no signature sneaker, Adidas came with signature sneaker and the market average money offer, Reebok came with the RED CARPET!!! As John arrived at the Reebok headquarters in Boston, there were 3,000 people outside with John Wall t-shirts on. After they got in the building, every TV was playing highlights of him playing in the various Reebok tournaments in high school. The Reebok staff escorted John and his team in the boardroom where they handed out IPADs to everyone in the room. Each IPAD had a John Wall application installed on them. The presentation started with running the app, which was an exciting visual animation of John racing down the court catching a pass from Allen Iverson and breaking down a few defenders before dunking the ball and the screen shatters then the John Wall shoe gets drawn on the screen with Wall's face and hand uncovering from a shade in the background. After that amazing visual presentation, John leans back and smiles. The Reebok staff took him to the gym while they prepared phase two of there presentation. As Wall is shooting around in the gym, AI pops up. He tells Wall, "You are me on some Barry Bonds stuff. I am passing the torch to you." Moreover, the final phase was presenting a 5-year 25 million dollar deal on the table and a signature shoe. What does this mean? Reebok will be banking on John Wall to save them in a time where Nike and Adidas are the dominant basketball brands. Do I think he can sell shoes? YES! |
