Since the beginning of NBA 2K, I have been a fan and that is when Allen Iverson was on the cover and you could only do like one juke move. This is when 2k was exclusive to Sega Sports and you had to have a Dreamcast. Many people didn't pay the brand any attention because NBA Live was the most recognized basketball game on the planet. I remember my friends used to come by my house and get upset because I didn't have Live. So what I started to do was buy both games on the release date and do a comparison. It never failed, 2K was just a better and more realistic basketball experience and my friends slowly but surely started to believe in the 2K Sports brand as I did. This prompted me to stop buying NBA Live because I was disappointed every year and did not see any growth over the years. Nobody ever thought in a million years there would be a basketball game that would upstage NBA Live. With all the marketing and exclusive sneaker licensing deals that EA Sports has packed in NBA Live, it still wasn't enough to get out the hole they have dug for themselves and now like any company trying to save their brand they change the name to NBA Elite.
Clearly, NBA 2K11 has won the battle and can back up the seal that has been put on their games for the last 5 years because now MJ has co-signed. “Its exciting to see it all come together,” said Michael Jordan, a recent Hall of Fame inductee. “I am looking forward to seeing the final product, but my kids might have to give me some lessons." I guess this fall basketball gamers won't be seeing too much "Its in the Game" as they power on their Xboxes or Playstations.
