| Utah welcomes the new Jazzy Jefferson | ||||

The Utah Jazz have completed the trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves' for F/C Al Jefferson. Jefferson averaged 17.1 points and 9.3 rebounds last season for the Timberwolves in his first year back from a major knee injury in February 2009. He will instantly help fill a void in Utah created when Carlos Boozer went to Chicago. This is a great move for Utah who look to dethrone the champion L.A. Lakers out West. Jefferson will help Utah fans forget about Boozer as they both have similar games. Statistically, Boozer does have the better career #'s with averages of 17.2 ppg and 10.2 rpg vs. Jeffersons's 15.3 ppg and 8.7 rpg. Besides the small difference in stats, the main reason Jefferson could be more valuable to Utah is because he has the versatility to play both power forward and center due to his long arms and size at 6'10, while Boozer's shorter 6'8 frame often was overmatched playing taller power forwards and centers. Jefferson will bolster a Utah frontcourt that would of been real thin if the free-agent Boozer left without any compensation. The best is yet to come for Jefferson. Remember he was key to the Celtics getting Kevin Garnett back in 2007 in the trade with Minnesota. Utah fans should be excited because Jefferson could flourish into an all-star playing alongside all-world point guard Deron Williams. |
