Needing to add more depth inside with the injury to Kendrick Perkins and the possible loss of Rasheed Wallace, the Celtics have holes upfront they need to address. Could one solution be Shaquille O’neal? With the signing of Jermaine O’neal last week, previous reports that Shaq would end in Boston appeared to be bleak at best. Or so we thought. You see, Celtics GM Danny Ainge realizes that they lost to the Lakers mainly because of rebounding. They were outrebounded 291-257 in the Finals. Ainge is a pretty smart guy. He knows that Shaq at the age of 39 will get you at least 10 boards on any given night and that he is still better than any other big on the market. Ainge envisions O’neal clogging the middle, which would prevent fellow opponents from snatching all of the boards. He could of definitely filled in for Perkins in Game 7. Imagine a frontcourt in variations of Kevin Garnett, the O’neal brothers, Perkins when he returns and Big Baby. They would finally be big enough to combat with the Lakers' bigs. They had better hurry up fast because they face stiff competition on their hands for the big fellas services as Atlanta, Dallas, San Antonio and Miami are all rumored to be in the hunt for him. Shaq wants to chase his fifth ring, (which will tie him with his arch-rival Kobe Bryant.) It’s unforeseen how seventeen years later from his arrival to the NBA and O’neal is still a dominate figure teams want. His destination could put a team over the hump who is in need of a serviceable big. Step up Boston, you don’t want Miami to get him. |
