The Gauchos hosted its annual Roundball Classic on Thursday at the Gauchos Gym. The NCAA sanctioned event featured representatives from some of the top colleges in the nation such as Villanova, George Mason, Marist, Oklahoma, Fordham, St. Francis and CW Post to check out some the talent in the Northeast.
What instantly caught my attention was the return of shooting guard Omar Calhoun, who played his first game back since suffering a mouth injury at the Nike EYBL (LA session) which had him sidelined for several weeks. Calhoun started out slow but quickly returned to his old self, scoring in a variety of ways. Calhoun was forced to play the center position because his Gauchos team only had five players. Even being undersized and undermanned they still managed to go undefeated in pool play on Thursday. He finished with 27 points in the first game and 38 points in the second. "This was my first game back since the injury. We wanted to play and prepare before heading down to the Nike Peach Jam( EYBL Playoffs)" said Calhoun.
